Our Mission: To provide pure water to remote villages with contaminated water sources, using simple sustainable technology that does not require electricity, validated by research.

Founding Story

Founded by Dr. Nathan W. Levin and Linda L. Donald, Easy Water for Everyone (EWfE) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to provide clean, safe drinking water to rural communities.

Our Story:

Nathan and Linda, both experts in dialysis, a process used to treat kidney failure, were working on a project that led them to discover a groundbreaking innovation. They encountered a method to sterilize used kidney dialysis filters (hemodialyzer)  and repurpose them in a system capable of purifying even the most contaminated water sources.

After witnessing the severe impact of water contamination on health, education, and economic opportunities during their visits to rural villages, Nathan and Linda envisioned a smaller, more portable version of this technology that could deliver pure drinking water to communities without electricity.

Our Water Purification System.

Through collaboration and innovation, this vision became a reality. The result was a water purification system that requires no electricity and can provide a reliable source of clean, safe water for entire villages.

Expanding Our Impact

Easy Water for Everyone is now operational in more than 52 communities across Ghana, Uganda, and Senegal, providing access to safe water for over 40,000 people.

As we continue to grow, our focus is not only on expanding access but also on strengthening the sustainability of each water system through local partnerships, community ownership, preventive maintenance, and climate-resilient technologies.

We are also making our proven water treatment approach available to other organizations and partners seeking practical solutions to water contamination, helping extend reliable water to more hard-to-reach communities.

The Global Water Crisis

Eight out of 10 people without access to clean water live in rural areas, and nearly half of them live in Sub-Saharan Africa. (UNICEF)

A basic problem common throughout most of Sub-Saharan Africa is the lack of adequate sanitation facilities. The hard facts are that water in lakes, rivers, wells, and even boreholes is contaminated with viruses, bacteria, and parasites, primarily affecting children under 5 years. Polluted water sources are the most common cause of death in this population. The unique technology used removes all infectious causes of diarrhea, resulting in demonstrable improvement in survival and enhancement of health in general.

Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a waterborne parasitic disease that disproportionately affects rural communities, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. It is transmitted through contact with freshwater contaminated by parasites released by infected snails, often in rivers, ponds, and lakes used for drinking, bathing, and fishing. Children are particularly vulnerable due to frequent water contact and weak immunity.

Easy Water for Everyone plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of waterborne disease transmission, including schistosomiasis, by providing access to clean water and reducing dependency on natural, unsafe sources. As part of the broader effort to meet SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), EWfE’s work exemplifies how practical innovation can drive real public health outcomes. In collaboration with the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ghana, we are currently conducting research on the impact of our intervention on schistosomiasis in Ghana.

When a community gets access to clean, pure water, it can change just about everything.

Access to clean, pure water means education, income, health, and well-being. We are proud to share that our projects have led to immediate positive impacts — learn more about how our system is supporting healthy communities.

It is transmitted through contact with freshwater contaminated by parasites released by infected snails, often in rivers, ponds, and lakes used for drinking, bathing, and fishing. Children, particularly girls, are vulnerable due to frequently having the responsibility of fetching water for the family.  The NUF500 device eliminates the need to wade into the contaminated water source to “fetch” the daily water supply for the family.  In collaboration with the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ghana, we are currently conducting research on the impact of our intervention on schistosomiasis in Ghana.
