Our Solution

Revolutionary Water Purification Inspired by Nature’s Design

Inspired by the body’s natural filtration processes, our innovative water purification technology tackles the challenge of transforming water sources containing harmful pathogens like bacteria, protozoa, and viruses into safe, drinkable water. Utilizing advanced, repurposed filtration methods originally designed for medical use, this system effectively removes impurities, ensuring clean water for those in need.

The Challenge

Failures in drinking water systems, treatment processes, and distribution networks can often lead to water contamination incidents, some of which result in disease outbreaks. In rural communities lacking sanitation, fecal contamination of water may result in severe illnesses, particularly in children under the age of 5 and recently weaned infants.

This lack of sustainability of water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions has devastating consequences for individuals, economies, and the environment and poses a major obstacle to universal access to services.

The NUF500 Solution

Easy Water for Everyone’s NUF500 filtration system uses gravity-driven filtration technology to effectively remove pathogens, viruses, bacteria, and parasites from contaminated water without the need for electricity or chemicals.

The NUF500 has been scientifically tested and field-proven to meet World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water standards. Its ability to remove viruses and bacteria exceeds international guidelines for microbiological water purification.

While electricity can simplify water purification, many rural communities without access to power still rely on untreated surface water from lakes, rivers, and contaminated wells. Easy Water for Everyone provides an innovative solution that enables these communities to access a consistent supply of safe water for drinking, hand-washing, bathing, cooking, and more.

How it works

Contaminated water flows from the right through the filters and free of all pathogens to the left. Periodic backwash is needed to “unclog” the filters. The frequency depends on the presence of sand or dry vegetation. The average seems to be three times per day for 10 – 15 minutes.

Research

We believe that clean water interventions should do more than meet an urgent need; they should also build a community-supported business model to ensure sustainability. The outcomes should be measured, tested, and strengthened by evidence-based analysis.

That is why data collection and research are integral to our work.

In the communities we serve, safe water is closely linked to public health, dignity, resilience, and long-term development. But delivering clean water to last-mile communities requires more than installing a system. It requires understanding the changing nature of water sources, tracking health outcomes, and making sure our interventions remain sustainable.

Where We Work

Easy Water for Everyone (EWfE) currently operates in over 51 communities across three African countries: Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda, providing clean and safe water to more than 48,000 people. Our efforts continue to expand beyond remote villages to include peri-urban communities, as we work toward reaching even more underserved populations.

Our Impact

A Local Approach to Lasting Change

At Easy Water for Everyone, we believe sustainable access to safe water begins with local knowledge, trusted relationships, and strong partnerships.

Local relationships helped EWfE build the trust needed to work effectively at the community level. Seth Johnson, RN, a US-based Ghanaian member of our Board, was instrumental in facilitating connections with local leaders and health institutions, especially in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region.

From the earliest stages of our work in Ghana, local medical professionals played a vital role in helping us understand the realities communities faced. Through their clinical experience, Prof. Sampson Antwi and Prof. Daniel Ansong had first-hand knowledge of the health consequences associated with unsafe and inadequate water access. Their insights helped identify communities where the need for safe water was especially urgent.

These partnerships reflect a principle that continues to guide our work today: lasting change cannot be imposed from the outside. It must be built with the people, institutions, and leaders who understand their communities best.

By combining local expertise with practical water solutions, EWfE strengthens community ownership, public health, institutional collaboration, and long-term sustainability.

Our approach is simple: listen locally, partner strategically, and build solutions that last.

The Impact of Clean Water

At all project sites, access to clean drinking water dramatically improved villagers’ quality of life. In all our return visits, mothers have told us what a difference the pure water has made in their lives, particularly in reducing or eliminating illnesses such as diarrhea, especially in children under five years. Also, teachers indicate that students are now rarely sent home from school due to diarrhea.
