Asunafo South District Assembly Partners with Easy Water for Everyone to Extend Clean Water Access

[September 11, 2024] – In August 2024, as part of the Asunafo South Nsupa ne Ahoteɛ Nkosoɔ (ASNAN Initiative), the Asunafo South District Assembly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Easy Water for Everyone (EWfE), a non-profit organization that provides sustainable, clean drinking water to communities with populations of 300 and above. This collaboration will bring clean water access to several underserved areas within the district, advancing local efforts toward achieving universal Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) coverage by 2030.

As part of the first phase, EWfE has completed a “Willingness to Pay” assessment in Betenasua and identified Tanoso and Dwakwakrom for the initial round of Gravity Water Station (GWS) installations, scheduled for completion between September and November 2024. The stations will serve Tanoso (830 people), Betenasua (308 people), and Dwakwakrom (465 people).

EWfE’s commitment to sustainable solutions, supported by a pay-to-fetch model and solar-powered GWS, ensures year-round water availability in rural areas. The organization, led by Country Director Harrison Matti, will work closely with the district’s planning office and the Assembly to guarantee project timelines are met.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Frank Adu Poku, expressed his full support for the partnership, emphasizing the district’s commitment to improving water access for all communities.

After the MoU was signed, the technical team of EWfE working in the Asunafo South District conducted a working visit to the Asutifi North District to inspect the GWS. The visit was also aimed at helping the District team adequately prepare to meet their financial commitments under the partnership.

The DCE expressed his excitement about working with EWfE to address the district’s water and sanitation challenges and recognized IRC Ghana’s valuable role in facilitating this partnership.
