A New Dawn for Tomefa: Clean Water Flows on Valentine’s Day
In the heart of Tomefa, a vibrant fishing community in Ghana, Valentine’s Day 2025 was not just a celebration of love but a historic milestone that will forever change the lives of its residents. Amidst pomp and pageantry, Easy Water for Everyone commissioned its largest water project, bringing clean, potable water to a community that had never experienced the luxury of water flowing from a tap.
The atmosphere was satisfying as community members gathered to witness the life-changing event. For the women and children of Tomefa, this was more than just a ceremony—it was the end of an era of hardship and the beginning of a brighter, healthier future.
A Long-Awaited Relief
For generations, the people of Tomefa relied on distant, often contaminated water sources. Women and children, who bore the brunt of this burden, would trek under the scorching sun, carrying heavy buckets of water to meet their daily needs. The toll on their health, education, and overall well-being was immense.
But on this special day, their struggles became a thing of the past. As the tap was turned on for the first time, clean water gushed forth, symbolizing hope, dignity, and progress. The excitement was palpable, especially among the women and children, who could now look forward to more time for school, work, and family—free from the grueling task of fetching water.
A Valentine’s Day to Remember
What better way to celebrate love than by giving the gift of life itself? Easy Water for Everyone’s initiative couldn’t have come at a more fitting time. On a day dedicated to love and compassion, the organization delivered a sustainable solution that will transform the lives of residents Tomefa and its environs for generations to come.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by the presence of the community chief and opinion leaders, who expressed their gratitude and optimism for the future. In a speech read on his behalf, the Chief emphasized the profound impact clean water would have on the community’s health, education, and economic opportunities.
Health, Sustainability, and Empowerment
Mr. Harrison Matti, Country Director of Easy Water for Everyone in Ghana, took the stage to highlight the health benefits the project would bring, particularly for women and children. He stressed the importance of clean water in reducing waterborne diseases and improving overall quality of life.
Mr. Matti also encouraged the community to take ownership of the project, urging them to implement sustainability measures to ensure its long-term success. “This project is not just for today; it’s for the future. With your support, we can ensure that clean water continues to flow for generations to come,” he said.
He also advised the women on the best ways to store water safely at home. “Clean water is a precious resource, and how we store and use it matters,” he said.
A Celebrity’s Touch
The event took an inspiring turn when Nana Ama Agyeiwaa, winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful Pageant 2010 and a renowned social influencer, addressed the gathering. She expressed her gratitude to Easy Water for Everyone and its donors for their continuous support to hard-to-reach communities in Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda, using their unique water filtration technology.
“I am elated to be part of this life-changing experience,” Nana Ama said. “Thank you for granting me this opportunity to witness the joy and hope that clean water brings to a community.”
She educated women on the importance of maintaining personal hygiene practices. “By observing proper hygiene practices, we can protect our children from diseases and ensure a healthier future for our families.”
The Future is Here
The Tomefa water project is more than just an infrastructure achievement—it’s a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion, and community. Easy Water for Everyone, with the support of donors, partners, and local leaders, has demonstrated that access to clean water is not just a basic necessity but a fundamental right.
As the community celebrated this milestone, it was clear that the future had arrived in Tomefa. Clean water is no longer a distant dream but a tangible reality, flowing freely and bringing with it the promise of a healthier, more prosperous life.
This is our largest project which is expected to serve about 2,000 people. Unlike our previous installations, this system utilizes 16 repurposed hemodialyzers instead of the usual 8. We are collaborating with the Water Research Institute at CSIR Ghana, to track the prevalent rate of schistosomiasis in the population using the NUF500.
A Call to Action
While Tomefa’s story is one of triumph, countless communities in Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda still await their turn. Our work is far from over, and the need for support for 2025 remains urgent. Let’s remember that love is not just about grand gestures, but also about extending a helping hand to those in need.
Together, we can ensure that more communities experience the life-changing gift of clean water. Support our efforts with your donation.
